Nicola Grellier has a deep commitment to drawing, strength of line and an enjoyment of accident whilst the pleasure taken in language, words and coincidence hover within the images.
Nicola’s paintings reveal an adoration for oil paint but also great enjoyment when using house paint and other media. In most recent years she has increasingly employed collage for it’s immediacy, vivacity and humorous possibilities, and drawing for it’s honesty. Her collages became increasingly text-obsessed, perhaps due to living in the city. Nicola took a 4 year break until January 2016 to design and direct Mad In England Needlepoint Kits. Now fully back in the studio her work has taken a turn to very figurative painting focussing on dressed absurdist players.
